The Doctor’s Lady

Sometimes a calling is not all you need to be a missionary. Priscilla White received the call, and thinks she knows exactly where to go. Unfortunately the mission board stands in her way. The only way she can go and teach others about God is to be married. In the same boat is Eli, a doctor who wants to setup a mission and clinic among the Nez Perce. His big plans and fund raising are brought to an abrupt halt by this ruling.
Predictably Priscilla and Eli agree to marry for the sake of their callings and trouble is soon to follow. Eli doesn’t want a woman on the long journey and Priscilla resents his overprotective demeanor. She soon finds his protection useful when their traveling companions make advances and cause trouble for the traveling couple.
Over all I was well pleased with how the book was written and Hedlund’s job developing the characters into believable protagonists and antagonists. I also liked the slow-growing romance between Eli and Priscilla. This is a sweet book and one any historical fiction lover will enjoy.
